What is Armlock Putting

Popularized by Matt Kuchar, the armlock putting style allows for the grip to rest against the forearm and create a fixed point for the stroke. Along with Kuchar, Bryson DeChambeau and Webb Simpson have also benefited greatly from the putting method.

DeChambeau went from 145th in Strokes Gained: Putting to 32nd and 28th the following two season with an arm-lock putter. Simpson noticed a similar jump in performance as he went from 174th and 177th in the statistical category the two years following the putter rules change to 5th, 11th and 13th in three of the next four years.

Will Zalatoris also used his Armlock style at the Masters earning a 2nd place finish.

By anchoring the shaft and grip to your arm, you are eliminating any deviations in shaft angle from setup to impact where most putting errors occur. The Pinhawk On Lock Armlock putter is perfectly designed for this USGA approved method of putting. It helps keep your wrist from breaking, and it also helps you keep conscious of a proper rotation of the shoulders. All of this results in giving you the stable stroke you need for solid, consistent putting, and it can help with the dreaded “yips” too.

REVERSE ARMLOCK?

That’s right! At Pinhawk Golf, we realized that while armlock putting is incredibly effective, for some it is uncomfortable. The Deadbolt Reverse Armlock putter was designed to anchor to your right arm for a more comfortable and confident stroke.

The Pinhawk Deadbolt uses Reverse Armlock Technology that is designed so the shaft of the putter is anchored to your dominant, more comfortable right arm. This gives you more control and consistency and does not feel awkward, so you will stick with it and make a smooth repeatable stroke every time. In fact it becomes comfortable and natural. In order to accomplish this, the Deadbolt is zero degrees of loft, which produces the perfect roll for the shaft lean that lead-arm anchoring produces.

As of now, there’s nothing like the Deadbolt on the market. It’s comfortable, it’s consistent, and you will make more putts with this level of control.

Although there is no magic pill, a new putter and a new putting method may very well be your answer. You will be required to practice a little to get comfortable with the new style but a little practice won’t hurt.
