Continuing in their commitment to develop golf equipment that makes the game easier for all golfers, the Pinhawk designers have turned their attention to the putting green, where so many players lose strokes. The Pinhawk On Lock putter is specifically designed for the armlock putting method.  The armlock putting method has been proven to help you maintain better stability in your putting stroke.

The USGA’s ban on “anchored” strokes has virtually eliminated the “broomstick” style and “belly” style putters, but they have deemed that a putter still “swings freely” using the method of bracing the putter on your forearm. Enter the armlock!

By anchoring the shaft and grip to your arm, you are eliminating any deviations in shaft angle from setup to impact where most putting errors occur. The Pinhawk On Lock putter is perfectly designed for this USGA approved method of putting. It helps keep your wrist from breaking, and it also helps you keep conscious of a proper rotation of the shoulders. All of this results in giving you the stable stroke you need for solid, consistent putting, and it can help with the dreaded “yips” too.

Many PGA Tour players have adopted this method of putting, and as more and more golfers give it a try, it keeps increasing in popularity. For example, Bryson DeChambeau has switched to this method and has instantly and dramatically improved his putting. Right now he is getting a lot of hype for his new distance gains, but in reality, he has reached another level also because of his new putting stroke. Some stats to back that up: In 2019, Bryson finished the season 28th in “strokes gained putting” with an average of .372 strokes gained on the field. In 2020 and beyond, he has almost doubled that to .690 gained, and 12th place on Tour. That is a dramatic difference when you are talking about the best players in the world! Bryson, love him or hate him, is a guy that loves to eliminate variables, and the armlock method does that and he knows it.

All that being said, there is a large gap in the market for an affordable armlock putter that is designed correctly. Some companies will take a regular putter head and try to adapt it to the armlock method and call it good, but this is irresponsible marketing. For the armlock putting method you need a putter head that has more loft than a traditional one, because of the angle of the shaft when the arm is “locked in”. We have found that 7 degrees is the ideal loft, and that is the spec on the Pinhawk On Lock. A true armlock putter head also needs to weigh more than a traditional head. A heavier head has been found to be beneficial for a fluid and consistent stroke in armlock putters. The Pinhawk On Lock at 400 grams, 7 degrees of loft, high quality 431 SS body, and precision milled face, ticks all these boxes.

An armlock putter is longer than a traditional putter because the butt end of the putter should rest on your forearm approximately 2 inches below the crease in your elbow. The easiest way to find your armlock length would be to take your traditional putter, assume your comfortable, regular putting position, turn the butt end of the putter against your wrist area, and measure from the butt end of your traditional putter to approximately 2 inches below the crease of your elbow. Add this measurement to the length of your current putter. For example, if your traditional putter is 34” long, and you measure from the butt end of that putter to 2 inches below your elbow crease, and this measurement is 6”, your armlock putter length should be 40”. When you receive the putter, if the butt end of your armlock putter is anywhere from 1” to 3” below your elbow crease in your normal putting position, you are good to go.

If you’re looking for help with your putting, and still want to conform to the rules of golf, try this Tour proven method of putting and give the Pinhawk On Lock a try. It will truly put your putting game “On Lock”!
